Inter-Korean Defense Talks to Open Tues.

Defense ministers of the two Koreas will meet Tuesday in Pyongyang for the first time since 2000.

During the three-day talks, the two sides will discuss security measures necessary for inter-Korean economic cooperation such as establishment of a joint fishing zone and the opening of cross-border railways.

They will also discuss ways to build trust such as exchanging information on military personnel, and will maintain direct phone lines during the talks.

Defense Minister Kim Jang-soo will lead Seoul’s five-member delegation while Pyongyang will send its defense chief Kim Il-chol with an entourage of the same size.

The South Korean delegation will take a civilian plane to Pyongyang via the West Sea.
