Airport security guards will be authorized to carry guns and rifles in times of emergency to beef up security.
The Incheon International Airport Corporation said two private firms in charge of security at the airport have provided their guards with the weapons as part of anti-terrorism measures.
An airport official said the weapons will be kept in a weapons room at normal times and will be provided to guards during emergencies.
The official said the Defense Ministry approved the security measure.
Security personnel must receive 80 hours of training before being allowed to handle the weapons. The official said security guards from the two firms completed the requirements for carrying weapons.
