China and North Korea are jointly seeking to boost tourism in the North's Rajin-Sonbong economic zone.

A Chinese broadcaster reported Thursday that Jang Chol-su, a senior official at North Korea's National Tourism Administration, visited Hunchun city in China's Jilin Province last Monday to examine its tourism industry.

The report quoted the North Korean official as saying the development of Hunchun's tourism industry is important to his country's economic development.

As about 30-thousand Chinese tourists have visited the North's Rajin-Sonbong area via Hunchun, the Chinese city has asked the North to help promote tourism.
