Koreas to Conclude Red Cross Talks Friday

South and North Korea will hold a closing session and announce a joint agreement on the last day of Red Cross talks Friday.

On Thursday at Mount Geumgang, the two sides actively discussed expanding reunions of separated families, but failed to narrow differences on the frequency of the reunions.

South Korea proposed holding the family reunions once a month starting next year. Currently, reunions are held about twice a year.

However, while agreeing to holding more reunions, Pyongyang was reluctant to increase the number of the gatherings to more than four a year, citing its lack of administrative manpower.

The two sides did agree to conduct from next year a trial operation of exchanging video messages for separated families who haven’t met one another since the Korean War and gradually expand the number of video exchanges to make it a regular project.
