The government is seeking to hold working-level military talks with North Korea on Tuesday at the truce village of Panmunjeom.
The Defense Ministry is pursuing talks to follow up on an inter-Korean meeting of defense chiefs which ended Thursday.
At the talks, the two Koreas will work out an agreement for daily cross-border railway cargo service. In particular, they will focus on military safety guarantees to boost business at the inter-Korean Gaesong Industrial Complex.
The two sides will soon hold working-level defense talks on joint development of the mouth of the Han River.
They will also discuss opening direct inter-Korean flights from Seoul to North Korea’s Mount Baekdu and the port city of Haeju.
Yet a Defense Ministry official says inter-Korean general-level talks are unlikely this year. Those talks were intended to map out the creation of a joint fishing zone and set up a joint military committee.
