A senior North Korean official and his delegation toured a Daewoo shipyard on the southern island of Geoje on Friday.
On the second day of his visit to the South, North Korea's Kim Yang-gon, who oversees the United Front Department of the North's Workers' Party, arrived at the Okpo shipyard early Friday. He was accompanied by six others on a Navy chopper for a tour led by National Intelligence Service Director Kim Man-bok.
The North Korean delegation watched a promotional video and were briefed on the operation of the shipyard owned by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering.
At the yard's Number One Dock, which is said to be the world's largest, the group toured the construction site of a super large 210-thousand cubic meter liquefied natural gas carrier and a 300-thousand ton oil tanker.
Daewoo has shown a keen interest in North Korea. It plans to create a shipbuilding cluster in Anbyon, North Pyongan Province.
