WFP: European Nations Resume NK Food Aid

The World Food Programme (WFP) says Germany and other major donors have decided to resume food aid to North Korea.

Voice of America quoted a U.N. spokesman at the U.N. relief agency’s Berlin office as saying that Germany’s donation of a quarter million euros, or 370-thousand dollars, would help relieve the hunger afflicting many North Koreans.

WFP also said Norway donated over a half million dollars and Russia three million dollars as food aid to North Korea.

Accordingly, WFP said it raised nearly 51-million dollars as of November 27th and was about halfway to reaching its targetted 102 million dollars by May next year.

The agency expects more nations to join in the efforts to alleviate serious food shortage in the North.
