Hundreds of cars and trucks will be sent to North Korea starting Wednesday to boost recovery efforts after recent flooding.
The Korea Peace Foundation, World Vision, and Daewoo Motor Sales announced plans to send 420 used autos, including passenger cars and trucks, to the flood-stricken North. The vehicles will go from Incheon’s Songdo Island to the Dorasan area in the South, and will then be driven to Gaesong in North Korea.
The vehicles will be given first to humanitarian aid groups to assist in medical needs and rebuild flood-damaged mountain areas. They will also be used to promote exchanges in human and material resources for education.
The 50 large-scale trucks will be used to rebuild agricultural sites, roads, and residential areas lost to flooding.
Due to logistical reasons, the vehicles will be sent in three groups, one per day. The first 162 autos will leave Wednesday and the final contingent will go on Friday.
