Koreas to Launch Cargo Service Tues.

The two Koreas will begin cross-border railway cargo service Tuesday for the first time in 56 years.

The first train will depart from the South’s Munsan Station at seven a.m., carrying construction materials to be used at the Gaesong Industrial Complex. It will continue along the Gyeongui Line and arrive at the North’s Panmun Station around 8:40 a.m.

The train will then return to the Munsan Station with ten containers of clothing, shoes and watches produced at Gaesong.

The two Koreas will hold a ceremony at Panmun Station to mark the launch of cargo services. In attendance will be Unification Minister Lee Jae-joung and the North’s senior Cabinet Councilor Kwon Ho-ung.

A total of 12 trains will operate on the inter-Korean railway, with the first train departing from Munsan Station every Monday through Friday at nine a.m. Trains returning to the South will leave Panmun Station weekdays at two p.m.
