A ruling party official said Tuesday some 450 South Korean soldiers in the medical and transport fields are expected to be dispatched to assist the ongoing U.S. attacks on Afghanistan.
The official on condition of anonymity said the Korean army is ready to send 120 medical, 170 maritime transport, and 150 air transport soldiers and 10 liaison officers if and when the U.S. asks for our military assistance.
He said, however, the issue of sending combat troops to assist in the fight against terrorism has yet to be considered.
