Inter-Korean Freight Service Running Empty

Cross-border railway cargo service has not transported any freight since launching Tuesday.

The Unification Ministry said the cargo train servicing South Korea’s Munsan and North Korea’s Panmun did not have shipment orders on Thursday or Friday.

A government official said that, since many South Korean firms at the North’s Gaesong Industrial Complex already had shipping contracts with trucks, the freight train would not have much cargo for awhile. However, the official forecast that shipments would increase soon.

The daily railway service opened as part of the follow-up to October's inter-Korean summit agreement.
