A pro-Pyongyang newspaper in Japan says North Korea is seeking to register ten relics in downtown Gaesong on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

The Choson Sinbo said Wednesday that North Korean scholars submitted applications to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, describing the ten sites' historical value and state of preservation.

The ten Gaesong relics include castles, royal tombs, Confucian sites, a gate and a Buddhist temple.

The paper noted that 63 Goguryeo-era tomb murals made the World Heritage list in 2004.

It also noted the country's plan to register other historical relics near Mount Myohang in North Pyeongan Province.
