NK Shows No Response on Conservative Lee’s Victory

North Korea has shown no response to conservative Lee Myung-bak’s election to the South Korean presidency.

Major North Korean news outlets including Rodong Sinmun, Korean Central Broadcasting Station and Pyongyang Broadcasting Station have not covered the issue since Lee’s election three days ago.

In the past, the North Korean media reported two days after the 2002 presidential election that Roh Moo-hyun won against the forces which opposed the historic June 15th joint declaration endorsed by the two Koreas in 2000.

Similarly, three days after the 1997 election, North Korea cited foreign media that South Korea had a change of government, although it did not disclose the name of then president-elect Kim Dae-jung.

Experts on North Korea project that the North will soon report on this year’s election and reveal its stance later.
