British daily The Independent has published a ranking of the world’s major cities based on 14 categories. London topped the list and Seoul came in at 19th.
The daily, in its Travel section, published an article titled “World Capitals” on Saturday, listing 60 large cities across the world.
The ranking was based on 14 separate criteria which include stock market value, population, history, culture and others.
London came in first out of the 60 with New York following in second place. Paris ranked third, Tokyo fourth and Chicago fifth. Spain’s Madrid came in at sixth, Washington D.C. ranked seventh, Los Angeles eighth, Rome ninth, and Mexico City tenth.
London received the highest points based on the number of flights per week, stock market value, the number of symphony orchestras in the city, whether the city has hosted the Olympics or not, the length of underground railway lines and others.
Seoul raked in high points for railway lines and its population, but showed poor performance in areas such as the number of listed ethnic restaurants, English guidebooks and the number of results found when googled.
