A Japanese daily says North Korea told the U.S. that it produced around 30 kilograms of plutonium.

The Tokyo Shimbun Thursday quoted an official familiar with the six-way nuclear talks that North Korea’s top nuclear envoy Kim Kye-kwan told his U.S. counterpart Christopher Hill that Pyongyang has produced 30 kilograms of plutonium so far.

The mentioned amount is much smaller than the 50 kilograms Washington suspects Pyongyang has produced.

Around four to six kilograms of plutonium is said to be needed to make one nuclear weapon.
