According to a senior government official Wednesday the U.S. administration is set to request that the Seoul government send non-combat troops to Afghanistan.
The official said the request is expected to be made soon as the United States is reportedly dispatching ground forces to Afghanistan.
For now, the Korean government is undertaking preparations for the dispatch of some 450 medical and transportation troops, including the passage of a relevant motion at the National Assembly.
He noted, if dispatched, South Korean military personnel would carry out other activities such as the removal of mines in Afghanistan and the protection of Afghan refugees.
