Controversial Painting Concluded to Be Genuine

Art experts have concluded that the late painter Park Soo-keun's oil painting "Women Doing Laundry" is genuine, ending a recent controversy over forgery.

The Korean Art Appraisal Association said Wednesday that its panel of 20 connoisseurs reached the conclusion.

However, the arts monthly magazine Artrade, which raised suspicion about a possible forgery, refused to accept the conclusion.

The magazine questioned the fairness of the appraisal, as the panel consisted mainly of gallery officials.

Seoul Auction, which sold the work, said it will file a libel suit against Artrade.
