Four golden monkeys, a rare species from China, were unveiled to the Korean public Monday.

Theme park Everland brought in the monkeys from a Chinese animal association in September on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties.

The monkeys --- two male and two female --- have since received various health checkups.

Along with two kinds of panthers, the golden monkeys are designated rare animal species under state protection in China.

In 2000, the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources registered them on its Red List of threatened species.

The monkeys have golden hair, bluish faces that look as though they are wearing makeup, and cry like a cat. They are known to live in needle-leaf or bamboo forests of alpine regions in central western China.
