Special Ministers May Join Inter-Korean Talks

The incoming administration may appoint a special minister who could serve as an envoy for inter-Korean dialogue.

Presidential transition team spokesman Lee Dong-gwan told a briefing Thursday that the post would be created under the incoming administration's government restructuring plan. He said whoever holds the post would be able to visit North Korea as a special envoy or lead talks on what he described as "resource diplomacy" with other countries.

The spokesman said it's President-elect Lee Myung-bak's idea to use the special minister for certain inter-Korean contacts. He said the minister will play diverse roles which could also include drawing foreign investment.

The committee announced the reorganization plan Wednesday that includes posts for two special ministers.
