WFP to Decide in June on NK Food Aid Extension

The World Food Program (WFP) will decide in June whether to extend its food aid operations in North Korea beyond August.

WFP’s Asia spokesman Paul Risley told Voice of America Saturday that the agency’s 36-member executive board will decide whether to continue helping the underprivileged in the impoverished state.

In 2006, the U.N. food agency decided to provide 150-thousand tons of food aid until 2008 to the North's most vulnerable citizens.

Risley said North Korean authorities had urged the WFP to continue its food provision to the less privileged.
