North Korea has released a Korean-Canadian humanitarian aid worker after more than two months of detention.

Radio Free Asia confirmed Sunday the release of Kim Je-yell, quoting a pastor of an ethnic Korean Protestant church in Edmonton, Calgary.

An anonymous Korean Christian source said Kim was freed around Thursday and is headed for Seoul. The source added Kim phoned his mother to inform her of his release.

Kim set up a dental clinic in North Korea in 1997, and continued to perform humanitarian work for North Koreans. He was arrested by North Korean authorities on November 3 last year.
