More than 1.3millon Flock to Trout Festival

More than one-point-three million people have flocked to a trout festival in Hwacheon, Gangwon Province that has boosted the local economy through tourism.

Tourists who visited the area for ice fishing outnumber the local population more than 50 times.

This is the sixth year the trout festival has taken place, and it’s the second year it’s attracted more than a million visitors.

The event was recognized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism as the best festival of 2008.

The trout festival alone has brought in more than five-billion won to the local economy, both directly and indirectly.
