NK, UNFPA to Conduct Population Census in Oct.

North Korea will conduct a population census in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

During the 15-day census that begins October first, 140-thousand UNFPA workers will visit all North Korean households to survey family size, jobs, income levels and ownership of home appliances.

The projects aims to have the UNFPA teach North Korean population and statisticians how to conduct surveys and analyze statistics.

Some North Korean officials are receiving related training in other Asian countries with financial support from the United Nations.

The census of the North Korean population will be the first since 1993.
