The two Koreas have agreed to continue operating inter-Korean railway cargo service once a day between the South's Munsan and the North's Bongdong.
The Unification Ministry says the two sides reached the agreement Wednesday on the final day of the first round of working-level railway cooperation talks in Gaesong, North Korea.
The ministry said Thursday that the two sides agreed to maintain the frequency of service, but will adjust the number of freight cars to reflect the amount of cargo.
The agreement comes after the North requested service reductions, citing the empty cars on trains running along the cross-border Gyeongui Railway.
A ministry official said the two Koreas also discussed ways to diversify shipping methods from the current container-only operation. And while the two sides tried to streamline entrance and exit procedures at the truce village of Panmunjeom, no agreements were finalized on those matters.
Cargo service on the inter-Korean railway launched December eleventh to transport goods to and from the North's Gaesong Industrial Complex.
