The Ministry of Science and Technology said Friday Korea's efforts to streamline and strengthen its human genome research got a boost with the establishment of the National Genome Information Center (NGIC).

The NGIC will operate out of the Korean Research Institute of Bioscience and Technology (KRIBB) in Taejon and will work to consolidate scattered scientific resources spread throughout the country's numerous laboratories, companies, and governmental organizations.

The measures are expected to increase research efficiency, do away with costly overlapping projects, and make it more feasible to enhance high-grade information related to genome studies.
