North Korea has warned that progress toward the scrapping of its nuclear program could "evaporate" if U.S. hard-liners oppose dialogue and negotiation with Pyongyang.

The Rodong Sinmun, the official daily of the North’s ruling Workers’ Party, said in a commentary Friday that policy based on power instead of dialogue can only result in serious threats. It added that such a policy does not present a resolution as has been evident in the two nuclear standoffs on the Korean Peninsula.

The paper said Pyongyang will have no choice but to draw up countermeasures if what it called “belligerent forces” in the U.S. keep pursuing hard-line policies.

In particular, the commentary said North Korea is consistently committed to resolving the nuclear standoff through dialogue and negotiation. The daily added that Pyongyang wants to ease tensions and secure peace on the peninsula.
