The burning down of Sungnyemun has led many to reflect on its loss in various ways, with many bringing letters and flowers in mourning.

A 61-year old placed a wreath at the site saying he was sorry to see the historic landmark collapse. He plans to petition the incoming government to preserve the burned-down site as a reminder that Koreans should take better care of their national heritage.

A group of students and their history teacher visited the area and lamented the ruin of the centuries-old Joseon Dynasty gate.

Many shed tears upon seeing the remains of the iconic wall gate.

Early in the morning, a woman in her 20s performed a 30-minute dance in front of Sungnyemun. She was dressed in mourning clothes, wearing a white hanbok, or traditional Korean dress.
