First "Arirang Prize" goes to the Philippines, Guinea

A Philippine tribal song and a Guinea performance ground are the recipients of this year's Arirang Prize.
The "Hudhud Chants of the Ifugao tribe" and the "Cultural Space of Sosso-Bala in Guinea were selected as the first winners of the "Arirang Prize," at a meeting of the U.N. Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization held in Paris Friday.
The prize was created in 19-99 jointly by the South Korean government and the U.N. organization.
It is given to countries or groups which have made contribution to preserving endangered intangible cultural assets.
The prize comes with 30-thousand dollars in cash.
