Efforts to preserve the destroyed Sungnyemun gate will be made with the help of the latest digital technology.

The Cultural Heritage Administration says a three-dimensional digital image will be made of the burned gate. The virtual Sungnyemun will be used for accurate documentation and as the basis for restoration projects.

The administration says it'll record the site using high-tech digital equipment borrowed from the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage.

Documentation will cover both the inside and outside of the site in cooperation with private firms specializing in field surveying and measurements.
