3-way Talks to Open on NK Energy Aid

The government will meet with China and North Korea Thursday to discuss energy and economic aid for the North as agreed under a six-party nuclear accord.

A South Korean Foreign Ministry spokesman said the two-day talks in Beijing will review progress on energy, facilities and material aid to the communist state. Participants will also draft future plans.

In previous six-way agreements, South Korea, the U.S., China and Russia agreed to give the North 450-thousand tons of heavy fuel oil and energy equipment worth another 500 thousand tons of oil. The provision of energy aid was contingent upon the North's declaration of its nuclear programs and the disablement of its nuke facilities.
