US Orchestra Concert in Pyongyang to Air Live

The New York Philharmonic Orchestra says the North Korean government has agreed to a live national broadcast of the orchestra's concert in Pyongyang next week.

The New York Times quoted orchestra President Zarin Mehta as saying Monday that Pyongyang confirmed the agreement on the live broadcast through an e-mail sent from the North Korean Mission to the U.N. in New York.

According to the paper, Korea Society President Evans Revere said he believed a live nationwide broadcast would be unprecedented in North Korea. He added the event would allow North Koreans, as he put it, “to see another face of America.”

The orchestra will perform in Pyongyang on Tuesday at six p.m. New York's Channel 13/WNET will rebroadcast the concert Tuesday evening New York time.
