NK to Promote Tours of its Orchestra, Acrobatics Troupe

North Korea plans to promote overseas tours of its national symphony orchestra and acrobatics troupe.

Bae Kyong-hwan, the vice chairman of a multinational investment firm based in Hong Kong and led by the North, said Friday that the Pyongyang Acrobatics Troupe will tour the United States, Europe and South Korea this year.

He added that the North’s national symphony orchestra will hold a concert this September in Britain. Bae said the orchestra is seeking to perform elsewhere in Europe, including Germany and Austria.

The Pyongyang Acrobatics Troupe has staged more than one-thousand performances since its establishment in 1952. The troupe performed in Seoul during the first inter-Korean summit in June 2000.

The North’s national symphony orchestra was founded in 1946 and comprises mostly musicians who studied abroad.
