6 Oldest Photos of Koreans Unveiled

The Society of Korean Photography released in its most recent journal six of the oldest pictures taken of a Korean, as confirmed to date.

The photos were taken by Joseon dynasty delegates in Russian diplomatic missions during their visit to China's Qing dynasty in 1863. They were kept at the University of London.

The fact that the envoys took pictures was confirmed in 1999 but only one photo was introduced at home in 2006. It's the first time to see all six.

Until now, a picture of the 1871 Joseon-U.S. naval clash taken by an Englishman on Ganghwa island and a French photographer's shot of Korean interpretor Oh Gyeong-seok were regarded to be the oldest.
