NY Phil Arrives in P'yang

The New York Philharmonic Orchestra has arrived in Pyongyang for its historic concert on Tuesday.

A delegation of some 280 people including orchestra members, their families, sponsors and international reporters, arrived in the communist state aboard a plane operated by South Korea's Asiana Airlines.

The delegation size is by far the biggest from the U.S. It's nearly three times the size of the 100-member delegation that went with former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright for her 2000 visit to Pyongyang.

The 90-minute concert will begin at six p.m. at the East Pyongyang Grand Theater. The orchestra will perform three pieces - the third act prelude from Wagner's opera Lohengrin, Dvořák’s New World Symphony and Gershwin's "An American in Paris."

Before the main program, the New York Phil will perform the national anthems of both North Korea and the United States. The concert will be broadcast live worldwide including in the North.
