North Korea has denounced South Korea for urging it to improve its human rights conditions at a U.N. Human Rights Council session Monday.

The North said the South's latest move went against the spirit of the joint declaration of June 15th, 2000, referring to the first inter-Korean summit.

Pyongyang said at the ongoing U.N. human rights session Wednesday that South Korea should take responsibility for all consequences caused by what it called Seoul's irresponsible remarks.

The North also claimed that Seoul's move runs counter to the atmosphere of reconciliation on the Korean Peninsula.

At the U.N. Human Rights Council meeting earlier this week, the South Korean government called on the North to take steps to improve its human rights conditions.
