Rare Desert Bird Found in Korea

A rare bird normally found in desert areas has been spotted in Korea for the first time.

The National Institute of Biological Resources said one desert wheatear was found in Pohang, North Gyeongsang Province, on January 26th. It's the first-ever recorded sighting of the small, black-tailed bird in Korea.

The finding will be noted in official biological records after detailed research and verification.

Desert wheatears are 15-centimeter-long birds living in desert areas like the Sahara. Eastern varieties are known to live in central Asia and Pakistan.
