Gov't to Declare Hangeul Week

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will dedicate a week in October to "Hangeul," the Korean alphabet.

In a briefing held Friday, the ministry proposed ways to raise public awareness on the use of Hangeul. In addition to the existing "Hangeul Day" on October ninth, the ministry will organize forums and various events to be held the same week.

A "Hangeul house" will be set up at the Korea Tourism Organization for foreign diplomats and foreign cultural centers. It will use Korean film and drama to promote the use of the Korean writing system developed in the 15th century.
