The World Food Program (WFP) is having difficulty gathering contributions for efforts to help the needy in North Korea.

Voice of America on Friday quoted the U.N. agency's Asia spokesman Paul Risley as saying the WFP has collected about 56 million dollars thus far. That's a mere 55 percent of its target in a fund-raising drive slated to end in August.

The spokesman added that the WFP has had difficulty raising donations from countries after the North’s nuclear test in October 2006.
