The Culture, Sports and Tourism Ministry will devise various measures to support the nation’s cultural content industry.

The ministry disclosed the plans Friday in a policy briefing for President Lee Myung-bak.

The ministry plans to create a fund worth one-and-a-half trillion-won, or just over one-and-a-half billion dollars, to promote the industry. It will increase financial support for businesses creating cultural content in cooperation with the Export-Import Bank of Korea.

The government will also discuss with related agencies various tax breaks for firms moving into culture industry promotion zones. The new zones will be designated in seven regions this year.

The cultural content industry encompasses a wide range of cultural products such as film, television, computer games, advertising, and animated characters.
