Tourists Can Drive to Mt. Geumgang from Monday

South Korean tourists will be able to drive their own cars to North Korea’s Mount Geumgang starting Monday.

Hyundai Asan, the operator of tour programs to the mountain resort, said it has set up parking facilities for South Koreans taking their cars across the inter-Korean military border.

Motorists traveling to Mount Geumgang must gather at Hwajinpo, a rest stop in Gangwon Province, by eleven-thirty a.m. on the day of their visit. They must arrive at their designated hotel at the mountain resort by three-thirty p.m.

Earlier this month, Hyundai Asan announced it would offer the new service, noting that a growing number of tourists had complained about having to travel to the resort by chartered bus.

The new daily tour program is booked every weekend until May.
