The Ministry of Culture and Tourism said Monday South Korean tourists visiting foreign countries in September spent US$581 million, down 29.5 percent from the previous month.
The ministry attributed the drop to end of summer vacations and a fewer number of Koreans traveling overseas in the wake of the terrorist attacks on the United States.
The number of Korean tourists visiting foreign countries in September slid 28.7 percent from August to 461,529.
