Inter-Korean Committees to Meet Next Month

South and North Korean committees on implementing the June 15, 2000 inter-Korean summit declaration will convene next month for the first meeting since the launch of the Lee Myung-bak administration.

An official at the South Korean committee said Tuesday that the North Korean counterpart faxed a message last week, offering to meet in the North Korean city of Gaesong or the Mount Geumgang resort area.

The South Korean committee said it prefers Gaesong and plans to send a delegation of six, including its chairman, Paik Nak-chung.

North Korea is also expected to send a delegation of five or six led by An Kyong-ho.

Attention is being drawn to whether Seoul's new conservative administration will get involved and provide support for joint events if the committees agree to hold them.
