Unification Ministry Reviews Inter-Korean Talks

The Unification Ministry is reviewing the possibility of holding inter-Korean talks.

Vice Unification Minister Hong Yang-ho told reporters the government has not decided whether to pursue a meeting with North Korea.

But he said ministry officials are reviewing possible dates and venues for inter-Korean talks.

Hong said there'll be opportunities for the South to hold talks with the North in the future.

He added that his ministry will use such opportunities to explain Seoul's new policies toward Pyongyang including President Lee Myung-bak’s “non-nuclear and open-door policy 3000."

The vice minister declined to elaborate on pending issues such as the provision of humanitarian aid to the North and reunions of separated families. He also would not discuss the issue of South Korean prisoners of war and others abducted by the North.
