Politicians Urge Normalization of Gaesong Complex

Ruling and opposition parties have urged North Korea to withdraw its expulsion of South Korean government officials from an inter-Korean industrial complex in Gaesong.

The ruling Grand National Party's spokeswoman Cho Yoon-sun issued a statement, saying that the North has frustrated efforts to create a stable investment environment for the complex, and urged the communist country to withdraw its act.

Sohn Hak-kyu, chairman of the main opposition United Democratic Party, said that it was not right for the North to expel the officials from the Gaesong Industrial Complex, a symbol of inter-Korean business cooperation.

The party's spokesman, Yoo Jong-pil, also said that North Korea's firing short-range missiles on Friday violated the inter-Korean basic agreement and summit declaration.

He urged the North to resolve issues through dialogue and not to stop inter-Korean business cooperation under any circumstances.
