The presidential office has decided not to respond to the North Korean Navy spokesman’s statement that denounced the Northern Limit Line (NLL) in the wake of its missile test Friday.
Cheong Wa Dae held a meeting Friday night on the North Korean military denouncement and decided not to react to the North's every move.
North Korea blasted the recent remark by the new Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Kim Tae-young, after he said that the South Korean military must defend the NLL during his confirmation hearing at the National Assembly.
On the North’s firing of short-range missiles Friday, the presidential office viewed it as an ordinary military exercise, but will watch the developments closely.
The NLL is a de facto maritime border in the West sea drawn by the United Nations forces at the end of Korean War in 1953, but North Korea never officially recognized the border. It has been a source of military tension between the two Koreas since then, especially during the fishing season.
