Foreign Minister Han Seung-soo will represent South Korea at a conference to facilitate implementation of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) set to open at the United Nations Sunday.
The ministry spokesman said at the meeting, Han will evaluate international efforts to halt the spread of nuclear weapons and urge participants to sign and ratify the treaty as soon as possible.
The accord, adopted at the 1996 U.N. General Assembly (UNGA) meeting, requires 44 major countries' signatures and ratification.
However, 13 countries among the 44, including the United States, have not signed or ratified it.
