Six out of ten journalists are opposed to allowing newspaper companies to operate television services.

The Korea Journalists Association commissioned domestic pollster Embrain, which surveyed 250 journalists last month.

The survey found nearly 64 percent of the respondents oppose the government’s move to allow newspapers to move into TV broadcasting.

Respondents were also skeptical that freedom of speech would be expanded under the Lee Myung-bak administration. Nearly 57 percent expected little or no improvement from the previous administration.

An overwhelming majority of 70 percent believe the heads of broadcasting institutions appointed by former-President Roh Moo-hyun should not be forced to resign.

The survey had a confidence level of 95 percent plus or minus six-point-two percentage points.
