Army colonel becomes Korea's first female general

A female Army colonel was promoted to brigadier general in a reshuffle Thursday, becoming the first female general in Korea.
The Defense Ministry said it promoted Col. Yang Sung-sook, 51, a medical officer at the Army Headquarters. She is to assume her new rank Jan. 2 next year.
The ministry said the future general will serve as head of the military nursing academy.
Yang said as the nation's first female general, she will do her best for the military and the country.
