Prime Minister Lee Han-dong said Saturday (New York time) that Korea was ready to lend unequivocal support to anti-terrorist activities being pursued by the United Nations (UN).
Delivering a keynote address at the 56th session of the UN General Assembly, the premier stressed that the country would spare no expense to help people who have been displaced by the ongoing war on terrorism.
He also said that both Korea and Japan would make certain that
the FIFA World Cup scheduled for next year would not be marred by terror or acts of violence. The prime minister expressed concern
over the wide spread human rights violations occurring in areas of conflict, and hoped that earnest debate could be carried out to stem such actions.
Lee then touched on the ongoing effort to bring about peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and explained the significance of the first ever summit meeting between the two countries last June.
He asked for the international community to continue to extend support for Seoul's engagement policy towards its northern neighbor.
