Civic Group to Plant Trees in NK Next Month

The nongovernmental Korean Council for Reconciliation and Cooperation says some 100 South Koreans will visit North Korea to plant trees next month.

The Korean council said Monday that the North sent a fax and proposed a tree planting event to help promote inter-Korean reconciliation and cooperation.

Former unification minister and current chairman of the council, Jeong Se-hyun, and other participants will travel to the North by chartered plane for the event.

Also, they will hold an opening ceremony for a tree nursery during their three-day stay from May seventh.

Meanwhile, Pyongyang expelled Seoul’s Unification Ministry officials from the Gaesong Industrial Complex earlier this month and canceled visits from South Korean civic groups.
